About the project
Yanco Delta is one of the largest and most advanced wind and energy storage projects in New South Wales. The proposed project development area spans around 33,000 hectares between the towns of Jerilderie and Coleambally within the Murrumbidgee and Edward River Council areas.
New South Wales Government Development Approval was granted in December 2023 and Commonwealth EPBC approval in February 2024.
Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) access rights that allow connection to transmission network infrastructure and the grid were granted in April 2025.
If successful, the next steps will involve establishing a grid connection agreement, developing post-approval management plans, and selecting construction contractors and turbine manufacturers ahead of a Final Investment Decision (FID).

Planning and approvals
The New South Wales State Significant Development (SSD) process provides for a formal, comprehensive assessment of important projects such as the Yanco Delta Wind Farm in accordance with government legislation, plans, policies and guidelines.
After several years of monitoring wind conditions and undertaking a range of detailed technical assessments, community and host landowner consultation, the Yanco Delta wind farm’s SSD application was submitted, receiving approval in December 2023.
The project was also referred and assessed under the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act, receiving approval in February 2024.
Apr 2022
The project’s scoping report is published alongside a request for the Secretary’s Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARs). A request for SEARs must be made for all State significant infrastructure (SSI) projects.
May 2022
SEARs are issued for the project. SEARs identify what information needs to be included in the environmental impact statement (EIS).
Jun 2022
Supplementary SEARs are issued for the project.
Nov 2022
The NSW Department of Planning and Environment places the project’s Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) on public exhibition.
Dec 2023
The project receives planning approval from the NSW Government.
Feb 2024
The project receives Commonweatlh EPBC approval.
Apr 2025
The project secures full transmission access rights from EnergyCo.

Two meteorological masts or ‘met masts’ are strategically positioned within the project area to collect a range of information to support the development, construction and future operation of the wind farm.
Both masts are 110 meters tall and collect weather data such as wind speed and direction, atmospheric temperature and pressure, and rainfall.
Ultrasonic microphones installed almost 100m above ground level survey bird and bat activity and as part of the project’s environmental assessment and planning requirements.
Specialist instrumentation is inspected and tested every six months. The mast tower and anchors are fenced, and an anti-climb system in place. Each mast also has lightening protection and aviation marking to provides greater visibility for aircraft.

Working with landowners
Origin strives to build strong and lasting relationships with our landholders, based on trust and sharing the benefits of our activities in the communities where we operate.
Since acquiring the Yanco Delta wind farm, Origin has focused on meeting with and getting to know local host landowners and neighbours.
Listening and working closely with landholders will help us to gain a better understanding of activities on their properties so we can plan and manage construction responsibly and where possible, reduce disruption and impacts from the project.
